The isolation of graphene was a momentous event for the scientific community. Countless research projects and academic studies have been devoted to understanding this super-thin, super-strong material. Researchers have also been allowed to put this wonderful material into real-world applications in the past couple of decades. It is these uses of graphene that have turned the material into a familiar substance today.
One of the simplest ways to exploit the potential of graphene is by combining it with existing materials, creating a composite. For example, graphene mixed with paint could produce an impenetrable varnish that is rustproof, and could end the deterioration caused by rust on bikes, cars, ships, and more. Similar techniques could be applied to building materials to construct weatherproof houses or food packaging to prevent food spoilage.
