Robert Peary
US Navy explorer Robert Peary is traditionally credited as the first explorer to reach the North Pole, achieving the feat in 1909. His path to the Pole began with lessons learned from the Inuit, the Indigenous people of the Arctic. He realized that survival required specific skills, such as dog sledding and igloo building. He also learned how important it was to travel light, and he later developed the “Peary System” based on the idea.
