Living in Blue Zones without feeling blue
Today, many people are interested in the lifestyle of those who live in Blue Zones to pursue long and healthy lives. For the most part, Blue Zones are areas where people tend to live longer than average. This term was first introduced by a National Geographic Explorer named Dan Buettner. While exploring various regions around the world, he and his team discovered that people in certain places had higher longevity. These people also enjoyed a better quality of life in their elderly years. In his book called The Blue Zones , he talks about five known Blue Zones—Sardinia, Italy; Okinawa, Japan; Ikaria, Greece; Nicoya, Costa Rica; and Loma Linda, California.

Buettner concludes that there are nine common features of Blue Zones. On the whole, people living in Blue Zones lead healthy lives, both physically and mentally. For instance, they engage in regular physical activity and take breaks to manage stress. They have plant-based diets and consume moderate amounts of food. In addition, they place a significant emphasis on their sense of purpose, family and community ties, and social networks. All these factors help them live happier and longer than people in other parts of the world.
