put one’s foot down

put one’s foot down 字面上的意思是「把腳放下」。人在態度轉趨強硬時，本來蹺著的腳就會放下來，暗示接下來要說的話題是嚴肅且正經的，因此這個俚語可引申指「堅定立場、態度堅決」。

• Even though the offer was tempting, Ted put his foot down and refused to compromise his values.

即使提議很誘人，泰德仍堅定立場，拒絕妥協自己的價值觀。
