Rachel seems to have it all. At work, she is a brilliant scientist who studies robotics. At home, she has a loving family. Her husband, Aidan, is always there to support her. As Rachel’s career takes off, Aidan is happy to spend more and more time raising their daughter, Chloe.

 　　Everything seems to be going perfectly until Rachel is suddenly struck by an illness and passes away soon after. Aidan and Chloe are shocked. How will they move on without Rachel?

　　一切看似發展得很順利，直到瑞秋突然得到一種疾病，並且不久後就過世了。艾登跟克羅伊很震驚。沒有瑞秋後他們要如何過接下來的日子呢？

 　　Luckily, Rachel had planned ahead. Because of her family’s medical history, she knew her life could be short. So, she secretly created a high-tech robot version of herself, which is called iRachel.

　　幸運地是，瑞秋早已事先計劃好了。因為她的家族病史，她知道她的生命可能會很短暫。所以，她偷偷地創造了一個高科技機器人版本的自己，叫做 iRachel。

 　　Rachel wanted the robot to help Aidan and Chloe get through the period following her death. She uploaded all of her memories to iRachel, and gave the robot messages for her husband and daughter. iRachel moves in with Aidan and Chloe and tries to learn how to become more human, but it’s not easy at all!

　　瑞秋想要這個機器人幫助艾登和克羅伊度過她去世後的這段時期。她上傳她所有的記憶到 iRachel 上，並留了要給她丈夫跟女兒的訊息給這個機器人。iRachel 搬進去跟艾登還有克羅伊住，並且試著學習如何變得更像人類，但這一點都不容易！

 

延伸學習｜spend、take、cost 表「花費」的用法

表「花費」的動詞有 spend、take 和 cost 三個字，但用法卻不相同，說明如下：

1. 本文中出現的 spend（三態為 spend, spent, spent）須以「人」作主詞，之後可接表時間或金錢的名詞，常用句型如下：
    人 + spend + 表時間∕金錢的名詞 + V-ing/on sth　　某人花費……（時間∕金錢）做……∕在……上 
   Those kids spend four hours watching TV every day.
   那些小孩每天花四個鐘頭看電視。
   Greg spent NT$200 on the wallet.
   葛雷花了新臺幣兩百元買這個皮夾。
2. 使用 take 時，可用虛詞 it 或事物作主詞，與表時間的名詞並用，常用句型如下：
    It takes (sb) + 時間 + to V　　（某人）從事……花費若干時間 
    sth takes (sb) + 時間　　某事物花（某人）若干時間 
   It took Thomas one hour to cook his dinner.
   湯瑪斯花了一小時煮晚餐。
   That book only took Ted three weeks to write.
   泰德寫那本書只花了三個星期的時間。
3. cost（三態同形）須以「物」或虛主詞 it 作主詞，而不可用「人」作主詞，且之後僅能接表「金錢」的名詞。
    sth costs sb + 表金錢的名詞　　某物花某人……（金錢）
    It costs sb + 表金錢的名詞 + to V　　某人花……（金錢）做…… 
   This new CD player cost me NT$5,000.
   這臺新的 CD 播放機花了我新臺幣五千元。
   It cost Jeff NT$400 to buy that book.
   買那本書花了傑夫新臺幣四百元。
