The last official Burning Man was held in 2019. In 2020, Burning Man was canceled due to COVID-19. However, lots of people still gathered at a San Francisco beach to celebrate Burning Man. In response,
the mayor of the city closed the beach’s parking lot. She said instead of celebrating, these people were putting people’s lives at risk with the possibility of spreading the virus.
In 2021, Burning Man was canceled again. However, a much smaller festival was held in the Black Rock Desert, and around 20,000 people joined. A lot of the older Burning Man participants said they preferred it this way because it made them think of the past parties where there weren’t so many “tourists.”
