The Coachella Festival is one of the world’s largest events for music, art, and fashion. When the festival began in 1999, it was a two-day eventcentering onalternative music. Tickets were only US$50, with parking and a bottle of water included. Attendancewas low, so the organizers lost a lot of money in the first year. However, they followed their vision, improved some details, and came back in 2001 with greater success.
Coachella is hostedevery year in Indio, California. The first event was held in October, but audiences and performers found the weather too hot. In 2001, the dates of the festival were changed to April. Now, Coachella marksthe beginning of festival season on the West Coast, and it has become an important destinationfor artists and fans. Ticket prices have increased with the scaleof the festival, and it has grown to a large event that takes place on six stages over the course oftwo weekends. Many people stay at the campgroundor arrive in a vehiclethat they can also sleep in. About half a million people attend the festival every year.
