call 本身是「呼喊」、「打電話」、「要求」等多種意思，根據使用時機，call 的搭配詞可以分為以下幾個類別：
1 表達一通電話或一次啼鳴：
a wake-up call 警醒之事，醒悟的觸動
- Can I schedule a wake-up call for 7:30 am tomorrow morning?（可以預約明早7點半的叫醒服務嗎？）
- Losing his job was a wake-up call for him to start taking his career more seriously.（失去工作對他來說是一個警醒，讓他開始更認真對待自己的職業生涯。）
- The recent environmental disasters have been a wake-up call for governments to address climate change urgently.（最近的環境災害對政府來說是一個警示，讓他們迫切應對氣候變化。）
英文小提醒："wake-up call" 這個用法源於早上酒店設定的服務，當客人要求在特定時間叫醒時，服務員會提供 "wake-up call" 來確保客人按時醒來。因此，它在比喻意義上表示一個能夠喚醒人們的重要事件或情況，引起他們重新思考或改變行為方式。
2 表達呼叫或通話：
call sb 打電話給某人
call the doctor 呼叫醫生
call the police / call the cops 呼叫警察、報警
- I'll call you later to discuss the details.（我稍後會給你打電話討論細節。）
- The nurse called the doctor when the patient's condition worsened.（當病人的狀況惡化時，護士通知了醫生。）
- I witnessed a robbery; I need to call the police right away.（我目睹了一樁搶劫案，我需要立刻報警。）
- The neighbors called the police when they heard a loud noise from the house next door.（鄰居們聽到隔壁房子有聲音，就報警了。）

call back 回撥，回電
call up 打電話，召集
- He left a message, and I will call him back as soon as possible.（他留了一個訊息，我會盡快回電給他。）
- I'll call up the restaurant and make a reservation.（我會打電話給餐廳預訂座位。）
3 表達提及、呼喚 或 接送某人：
call on sb 點名，要求某人...
call someone's name 提及某人的名字
- The teacher called on Sarah to answer the math problem on the board.（老師點名讓莎拉在黑板上回答數學問題。）
- During the meeting, the boss called on the team members to share their ideas.（在會議上，老闆要求團隊成員分享他們的想法。）
- The teacher called each student's name during the roll call.（老師在點名時提及每個學生的名字。）
- I heard someone calling my name, but I couldn't see who it was.（我聽到有人在呼喚我的名字，但我看不清是誰。）
call for sb 去接某人
- I'll call for you at 7 PM to go to the party together.（我會在晚上七點來接你一起去派對。）
4 找來、請求某人 或 向某人求援：
call in 叫來，集合
- I need to call in a plumber to fix the leaking pipe.（我需要打電話請來一個水管工來修理漏水的管道。）
- The company decided to call in a consultant to review their business strategy.（公司決定請來一名顧問來檢視他們的業務策略。）
- Due to the storm, the school called in students to stay at home for safety reasons.（因為風暴，學校要求學生待在家中，出於安全考慮。）
call in sick 請病假
call in the cavalry 派出增援，求助
- If you're not feeling well, remember to call in sick and take a rest.（如果你感覺不舒服，記得打電話請病假休息。）
- The company was struggling with the project, so they called in the cavalry by hiring external experts.（公司在項目上遇到困難，因此他們通過聘請外部專家來提供幫助。）
