Bhutan Achieves Success in Street Dog Management
Bhutan has made history by becoming the first country in the world to fully sterilize and vaccinate its street dog population. The announcement was made during a ceremony led by Prime Minister Lotay Tshering in the nation’s capital. He presented a plaque to Humane Society International (HSI), a global animal protection organization, to thank them for their important contribution to this great achievement.
With HSI’s support, more than 150,000 street dogs have been sterilized and vaccinated in a project that began in 2009. The project’s success has not only improved the welfare of street dogs but also helped raise public awareness. Bhutan’s achievement sets a great example for other countries in Asia facing similar challenges.
