In a historic moment at the COP28 in Dubai, nearly 200 nations agreed to establish a “loss and damage” fund to support countries affected by global warming. More than US$400 million has been pledged to the fund, with the host of COP28, the United Arab Emirates, pledging US$100 million, the European Union committing US$246 million, and many others contributing to the cause. However, the amount still fell short of the summit’s US$100 billion goal.
