You'd better hit the books, or else you won't be able to get admitted to a good university.
= You'd better study, or else you won't be able to get admitted to a good university.
Stop nagging! I'm going to hit the hay.
= Stop nagging! I'm going to hit the sack.
= Stop nagging! I'm going to go to bed.
*nag vi.
I have to hit the books tonight, so I can’t go to the movies with you.
Jimmy was so tired that he hit the hay straight after he got home.
I’m so tired that I think I’ll just hit the sack.
Sam went to bed late last night and is tired today.
I tossed and turned in bed last night, wondering why my girlfriend would leave me.

Henry always lets me down when I need him the most.
