§ 副詞子句，如同名詞子句和形容詞子句，不能單獨使用，必須依附在主要子句才能使句意完整。按『方式』分，有表『時間』、『地方』、『目的』、『結果』、『原因』、『條件』、『讓步』的副詞子句。

句型 (1)：when + S + V... 當……之時（常表瞬間） |
- Stop the exercise when you feel tired.
（當你感到累時就停止該運動。） - When you are faced with danger, don't panic.
（面臨危險時，不要驚慌失措。）

句型 (2)：while + S + V... 當……之時（恆表一段時間） |
- While I was taking a walk in the park, I witnessed a robbery.
（當我在公園散步時，我目睹了一件搶案。） - Most people don't want to be disturbed while they are sleeping.
（大多數人睡覺時都不希望被干擾。）
《補充說明》 while 亦有 although（雖然）的用法，詳後。

句型 (3)：as + S + V... 當……之時（as = when / while） |
- As(= When) people age, their skin becomes less elastic.
（當人們上了年紀時，皮膚就會失去一些彈性。） - I saw my kids as(= while) I was getting off the train.
（正當我在下火車時，我就看到我的孩子。）
《補充說明》 as 亦有 because（因為），though（雖然）等用法，詳後。
