如同中文，英文的『語態』有兩種，即『主動語態』和『被動語態』。例如『我邀請了幾位朋友。』，這是『主動語態』，而『幾位朋友被我邀請來。』這是『被動語態』。本單元以英文的『被動語態』為主。

→Calculus was invented by Newton.
（牛頓發明了微積分。）
- Mom is cooking dinner.
→Dinner is being cooked by Mom.
（老媽正在煮晚餐。）
- Someone must have stolen it.
→It must have been stolen (by someone).
（這個東西一定是有人偷走了。）
《補充說明》
- 主動改為被動時需注意時態的一致。
- 被動句的動詞單複數需與其（新）主詞一致。
- by + 動作者，如果該動作者為籠統的 someone / people 或該動作者至為明顯或說話者不願提及，均可省略。
