Asian Games
Wang won gold in the men's 200m butterfly at the Asian Games.
the Olympic Games / Olympics 奧運
the World Championships 世界錦標賽
the World Cup 世界盃

bronze (medal) n.

medalist n.
butterfly (stroke) n.
drought n.
end a drought 終結空窗
The team finally ended its 10-year title drought.
“Wang, who finished eighth in the men’s 100m butterfly earlier in the Games, showed his medal-winning form in his strongest event, advancing from the heats before securing the gold in the final at the Tokyo Aquatics Center.”
advance from the heats
secure a victory 取得勝利 secure the gold 拿下金牌
The team secured a place in the final.(這支隊伍成功取得決賽資格。)

Wang showed his medal-winning form in his strongest event.
…, who finished eighth in the men’s 100m butterfly earlier in the Games, …
…, advancing from the heats before securing the gold in the final at the Tokyo Aquatics Center.
Tips:
“Wang also said that he had sustained a sudden back injury several days before the competition.”
• Anna sustained a knee injury during training.(安娜在訓練的時候,膝蓋受傷了 。)
“A doctor diagnosed him with acute tendon inflammation, which initially left him, his coach and his physical therapist worried and unsure how to proceed.”
• The doctor diagnosed Taylor with stomach flu.(醫師診斷泰勒得了腸胃型感冒 。)
• Rick was diagnosed with stomach cancer.(瑞克被診斷患有胃癌。)
acute a.
inflammation n.
proceed vi.
• We decided to proceed with the plan.(我們決定繼續進行這項計畫 。)
“Wang said he reminded himself to stay relaxed and give it his all despite the injury, …”
• Jenny gave it her all in the final round.(珍妮在最後一輪全力以赴。)
• You've trained for months. Just go out there and give it your all.(你已經訓練好幾個月了,上場全力以赴就對了。)
“The swimmer said his coach told him earlier in the day that he had a good chance of winning in the final, urging him to stay focused and maintain his pace.”
pace 的常見搭配還有:at one’s own pace 按照自己的步調。
urge sb to V — 原文的 urging him to stay focused 就是「力勸/鼓勵他保持專注」。
have a good chance of V-ing — 原文的 have a good chance of winning 表示「很有機會獲勝」。
• Try to maintain your pace for the last kilometer.(試著在跑最後一公里時,保持你的速度。)
• It’s difficult to maintain this pace at work.(工作上要一直維持這樣的步調很困難。)
• Everyone learns at a different pace.(每個人的學習速度都不一樣。)
• The doctor urged Kelly to get more rest.(醫師敦促凱莉多休息。)
• Our team has a good chance of reaching the final.(我們隊很有機會晉級決賽。)
“I just focused on my own lane.”
After years without a championship, the team finally ended its title ______.
1. sustained / injury
2. drought
3. diagnosed / with
4. gave it her all
5. maintain / pace

Taiwanese swimmer Wang Kuan-hung (王冠閎) won the men’s 200m butterfly gold medal at the Asian Games in Japan yesterday, leading a 10-men final in 1 minute, 55.05 seconds.
Xu Fang (徐放) of China took silver in 1 minute, 55.65 seconds, while Kim Min-seop of South Korea won bronze in 1 minute, 55.94 seconds.
Wang, who finished eighth in the men’s 100m butterfly earlier in the Games, showed his medal-winning form in his strongest event, advancing from the heats before securing the gold in the final at the Tokyo Aquatics Center.
The 24-year-old won silver in the same event at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, ending a 25-year medal drought for Taiwan’s male swimmers.
Speaking to reporters after the final, Wang said that the victory felt “unreal” to him.
He said he had been under considerable pressure and was very happy to finally win the gold medal, adding that he had been unable to sleep the night before and on Friday afternoon.
Wang also said that he had sustained a sudden back injury several days before the competition.

He said he swam hard from the start and did not realize he was leading until the 150m mark, after which he gave it his all to reach the finish.
As Wang continues to rewrite Taiwan’s men’s swimming record at the Asian Games, he said he hopes to pass on his experience to younger swimmers and let them know that success is possible if they believe in themselves.
Asked about his next goal, Wang laughed and said he had not thought about it yet.
“Basically, I want to relax for a while,” Wang said.
