Beatriz Flamini may have broken a world record for the longest time spent in a cave.
“Have you been living under a rock?” If you were to ask this question to Beatriz Flamini recently, her answer would definitely be “Yes!” The Spanish athlete actually spent 500 days in a cave near Granada, Spain, for an experiment. The aim was to see how a person would manage living without any human contact. Flamini was watched over from a distance by psychologists, physical trainers, and scientists throughout the experiment. The study sought to understand how being completely isolated affects a person’s body and mind.

The project—called Timecave—was Flamini’s idea. She entered the cave on November 20, 2021 with two cameras and 60 books. She spent her time exercising, drawing, knitting, and reading. She lost track of time after two months. When the experiment was complete, she thought only a few months had passed. Aside from some tough moments, such as being attacked by flies in the cave, Flamini enjoyed the experience. Considering she missed the passing of the COVID-19 pandemic, the death of Queen Elizabeth II, and the invasion of Ukraine, perhaps living under a rock isn’t so bad.

If + 主詞 + were to + 原形動詞, 主詞 + 過去式助動詞 would / could / might / should + 原形動詞
If you were to win a million dollars, what would you do?
If the Sun were to rise in the West, I would believe what you said.
