Lynda Rutledge, the author of West with Giraffes, didn’t dream of being a writer as a child. She was too busy dreaming of being a baseball player for the New York Yankees or playing tennis at Wimbledon. That fearless spirit would serve her well as an author and many of her adventures would inspire her work. From snorkeling with sea turtles to hang-gliding in the Swiss Alps, Lynda Rutledge has sought inspiration in her own life as much as in the great literature that influenced her to become a writer. In her childhood, she read Superman comics and Nancy Drew mysteries. As she grew up, she began to appreciate classics like Huckleberry Finn and To Kill a Mockingbird.
