J: That’s not good. We need to turn things around quickly, or we could go bankrupt.
L: I’ll try my best. Hopefully, we’ll be in the black by the end of the year.
be in the red
一般公司在記帳時，常用紅色數字表「虧損」或 「負債」，這也是本俚語 be in the red(出現赤 字)的由來。
• The government has been in the red for quite a few years.
該政府財政赤字連年。
be in the black
帳務收支平衡上若出現黑字，則表示「有賺錢; 有盈餘」，也就是對話中的 be in the black。
• We got a big bonus because our company is in the black.
因為公司賺錢，我們得到了豐厚的獎金。
