閱讀測驗

Despite their reputation, the idea that lemmings deliberately kill themselves is far from the truth. When their population grows too large and food becomes scarce, these rodents simply set out in search of new territory and fresh sources of food. If they come across a river or lake along the way, they may jump in and try to cross it. While they may look frantic, they are actually capable swimmers. However, some may drown if the distance is too great or if they become exhausted. What happens, then, is not mass suicide but a desperate struggle for survival.
