 行遍天下

Almost 90 million years ago, Madagascar broke off from a much larger piece of land. Because of this, the island is home to many unique and wonderful plants and animals that cannot be found anywhere else in the world.

The island’s wildlife includes 113 kinds of lemurs. These animals, which are related to monkeys, live in trees throughout the island’s forests. The ring-tailed lemur has become a national symbol of the country. The largest lemur is the indri: a skilled jumper that can leap up to 10 meters from one tree branch to another.

If you are lucky enough, you may be able to spot a Madagascan pochard. In the past, everyone believed these diving ducks were all gone. Imagine how surprised scientists were when 20 Madagascan pochards were found alive and well several years ago.

Madagascar is also known for its unique trees. Tapia trees grow in the middle part of Madagascar. When the round, brown fruit of the tree falls, you can enjoy a sweet treat. The trees are also special because they are home to a type of silkworm—an insect that makes its own silk. Other famous trees are the island’s Baobab trees. These huge trees are ancient, and they create a magical landscape wherever they grow. If you ever have the opportunity to visit Madagascar, take it. You are bound to make some unforgettable memories.
