Europeans have their own special wedding traditions, too. Norwegian weddings usually feature kransekake, a kind of traditional cake. It is made from rings of almond cake on top of each other. In the middle, there’s often a gift, such as champagne. Before eating, the couple lifts the top layer of the cake up. Then they count how many layers are stuck to the top one. This is said to represent the number of children they’ll have. Norwegian brides also wear a small crown with charms hanging from it. The sound these charms make is said to scare off evil spirits.
