Over the past few decades, advances in technology have opened up new possibilities in film and entertainment. One key technology is motion capture. Motion capture is a process that uses computers and sensors to record the movements of a person’s body. Actors wear special suits covered in sensors. These sensors take down the actors’ movements and send the data to a computer.
Once the motions are captured, experts use digital tools to add various skins and special effects to create characters. Computer-generated settings can also be used to place actors in extreme environments or situations that would be practically impossible to film in real life. The major fields where motion capture is widely used include movies, video games, animation, and more.
We can thank motion capture technology for bringing characters like the Hulk from The Avengers or Gollum from The Lord of the Rings to the big screen. As this technology advances, it is even possible to recreate people from the past. Motion capture technology has changed the way people experience and create entertainment.
