農曆七月鬼門開，不管你是信其有還是覺得是迷信，有一些風俗習慣是從古早以前就流傳下來的，也特別在這段時間有很多人會看到靈異自然現象，雖然不知道是真的還是人為的，但也弄得人心惶惶~

鬼月的民間禁忌（taboo）超多，這裡列三個大家可能比較熟悉的，也比較是平常會做的事情，要記得在鬼月期間不要這樣做喔~

Don’ts

1. 不吹口哨

• 吹口哨 whistle

鬼月期間最好不要吹口哨，因為一般認為吹口哨會引來好兄弟跟著你。
It is best not to whistle during Ghost Month as whistling is thought to invite ghosts to follow you.

2. 不要玩水

農曆七月期間不要玩水。據說溺死者的鬼魂會想害下水的人淹死，好有機會投胎。
Stay away from the water during the seventh month of the lunar calendar. It is said the spirits of drowning victims might try to drown swimmers for a chance at rebirth.

3. 晚上不要曬（掛）衣服

• 曬（掛）衣服 hang the / one’s laundry out to dry

鬼月時晚上絕對不要曬衣服。一般認為衣服的人形會讓鬼忍不住想要穿穿看。
Never hang your laundry out to dry at night during Ghost Month. The humanoid shape of clothing is thought to be inviting for ghosts who cannot resist trying them on.

除了禁忌之外，也有幾個習俗是大家鬼月會做的，目的是為了保平安，畢竟誰也不想跟鬼鬼當真的好兄弟吧~

Dos

1. 普渡 Zhongyuan Pudu

這個是中文直接音譯，不熟悉臺灣文化的外國人無法直接理解。比較簡化的說法是 make offerings to the hungry ghosts，中文翻譯是「拿供品給餓鬼吃」。

普渡在整個鬼月的任何一天進行都可以。
People make offerings to the hungry ghosts on any day throughout Ghost Month.

2. 搶孤 Chiang Ku 

Chiang Ku是中文直接音譯。第一次聽到的外國人會不了解這是什麼~

舉辦搶孤的目的在一般有兩種說法，有人說搶孤是為了娛樂先靈；有人則認為搶奪祭品可以嚇退鬼門關還不想回去的亡魂。

臺灣搶孤最風行的地區就是宜蘭頭城跟屏東恆春。
In Taiwan, Chiang Ku is most popular in Toucheng, Yilan and Hengchun, Pingtung.

3. 用艾草驅毒避邪

• 艾草 Mugwort

• 驅毒避邪 warding off disease and evil spirits

據說用艾草洗澡可以驅毒避邪。
It is said that using mugwort in a bath can ward off disease and evil spirits.
