With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and Russia’s war in Ukraine looming in the background, French president Emmanuel Macron has won a second term in office. Dissatisfaction among much of the French public with the current government’s handling of recent issues was a major concern for Macron in his bid for reelection. However, in a repeat of the 2017 election, Macron defeated the far-right challenger Marine Le Pen.
