According to Article 69 of the Act Governing the Punishment of Violation of Road Traffic Regulations, all electric bicycles are officially recognized as “micro-electric scooters,” which must pass inspection and have license plates attached to them in order to be on the road. Owners of micro-electric scooters will also require compulsory liability vehicle insurance; otherwise, they will be fined anywhere from NT$750 to NT$1,500.
If an owner has taken out this insurance and their vehicle is involved in an accident that results in the injury or death of a third party, then the victims will be financially secure.
Whether you own a car, a regular scooter, or a micro-electric scooter, it's important for everyone to keep up to date on payments for your compulsory liability vehicle insurance.
For those who fail to renew their compulsory liability vehicle insurance within six months after it expires, the license plates will be revoked. Remember, if each micro-electric scooter owner is properly insured, it will offer more protection and security to everyone on the road.
