短文聽讀 Dialogue

　　I was awake last night because our new baby was crying. I was very tired today, so I had a large cup of coffee. And then another. And then another. And then another! Now, the baby is asleep, but I am wide awake. Why, oh why, did I drink so much coffee?

　　昨天夜裡我都是醒著的，因為那時我們剛出生的寶寶一直在哭。我今天很累，所以我喝了一大杯咖啡。接著再一杯。然後又一杯。繼續又再一杯！現在寶寶睡了，但我卻非常清醒。唉，我為什麼要喝這麼多咖啡呢？

實用詞句 Useful Expressions

 1  介紹代名詞 another 的用法

代名詞 another 表示「另外一個」先前已提過的人或物（如本文的 another = another cup of coffee），可作主詞、受詞或表語：

Karen has bought many stuffed toys like this―another of them came today.
                                                                                      （another 作主詞）
凱倫已經買了許多像這樣的絨毛娃娃 ⸺ 今天又多了一個。
 

The flu is transmitted from one person to another through the air.
                                                                          （another 作受詞）
流行性感冒藉由空氣在人與人之間互相傳染。


To know is one thing; to do is another.
                                                    （another 作表語）
知道是一回事，做又是另一回事。
 

 

 2  表示「非常累」的說法

tired  a. 感到疲倦的；感到厭煩的
be tired out　　累壞了

= be worn out
= be exhausted

Harry was so tired that he fell asleep at once.
哈利累壞了，所以馬上就睡著了。

Kevin was tired out after the basketball game.
= Kevin was worn out after the basketball game.
= Kevin was exhausted after the basketball game.
凱文在籃球比賽結束後整個人累垮了。

 

 比較 

 a   be tired from...　　因……而勞累
Jack was tired from working.
傑克因工作而疲累。
 b   b be tired of...　　對……感到厭煩
= be bored with...
The traveler is tired of staying in hotels.
這個旅人厭煩了住在飯店裡。
