本週我們選讀《台北時報》（Taipei Times）的相關報導，先快速看懂這起食安事件，再從新聞關鍵句學會 halt sales、be eligible for、comply with 等 5 組在多益、商務與生活英文中都非常實用的用法。
Step 1前情提要（The Context）麥當勞台灣推出期間限定的「海味揚蝦堡」與「海味雙層揚蝦堡」，沒想到開賣隔天就突然全台停售。
原因是進口商通知，後續批次蝦排檢驗出 nitrofurans（硝基呋喃類）及其 metabolites（代謝物），濃度為 0.7 ppb，不符合台灣食品安全規範，因此麥當勞立即停止販售，並針對符合條件的消費者提供退款。這起事件在英文新聞中可以簡單濃縮成：
“McDonald’s halted sales of the shrimp burgers over food safety concerns.”
麥當勞因食品安全疑慮停止販售蝦堡。從這則新聞裡，藏著不少「停售」、「符合退款資格」、「符合法規」這些說法，剛好都是新聞與多益中很實用的英文。正式進入新聞關鍵句之前，先認識 4 個看懂食安新聞很有用的單字：
antibiotic n. 抗生素
醫療與食品安全新聞中很常見的單字。

硝基呋喃類是一類合成抗生素。take antibiotics 服用抗生素

某物質進入生物體、經代謝作用後產生的物質。報導中的 nitrofurans and their metabolites 即「硝基呋喃類及其代謝物」，metabolism 則是我們熟悉的「新陳代謝」。

halt sales 停止銷售；停售halt 比 stop 正式，因此很常出現在新聞及商務英文中。

halt 可以當動詞，也可以當名詞：
The company halted production.（公司停止生產。） ／ Production came to a halt.（生產停了下來。）

02「期間限定」英文怎麼說？先看你限定的是「版本」還是「時間」？“…its limited edition Sea Flavor Fried Shrimp Burger…”

limited edition 限量版；限定款中文都會說「限定」，但英文其實要看你強調的是「版本」還是「販售時間」。
limited edition
→ 強調「限定版本」指特別推出的版本，常見於鞋款、收藏品、紀念商品或聯名商品。
• This is a limited-edition sneaker.
這是一雙限定版球鞋。limited time
→ 強調「限時推出」放在名詞前，表示商品或優惠只在一段時間內提供。
• This is a limited-time offer.
這是限時優惠。• McDonald's launched a limited-time burger.
麥當勞推出一款期間限定漢堡。for a limited time
→ 強調「只在限定期間供應」• This burger is available for a limited time.
這款漢堡只在限定期間販售。• This is a limited-edition sneaker.（這是一雙限量版球鞋。） ／ This burger is available for a limited time.（這款漢堡只在限定期間販售。）
新聞原文使用 limited edition 來描述這款限定商品；如果平常想表達「這款漢堡只賣一段時間」，用 limited-time burger 或 available for a limited time 會更直接。

be eligible for 符合……資格；有資格獲得……這是多益非常值得記的一組搭配。eligible 本身表示「符合資格的」，在正式通知、公司規章、優惠活動中都很常見，固定用法是 be eligible for + 名詞：
be eligible for a refund 符合退款資格 be eligible for a discount 符合折扣資格 be eligible for benefits 符合福利資格
順便學 refund（可當名詞，也可當動詞）：
request a refund 申請退款 ／ receive a refund 收到退款 ／ refund the customer 退款給顧客
多益常考• Employees who have worked here for more than one year are eligible for additional paid leave.（任職超過一年的員工可享額外有薪假。）
• Customers are eligible for a full refund within 30 days.（消費者可在 30 天內申請全額退款。）

comply with 遵守；符合comply with 是多益、商務、法規英文中的超高頻搭配，後面通常接 laws（法律）、regulations（規定）、rules（規則）、standards（標準）、requirements（要求）。遵守規定的介系詞是 with：

comply to regulations常見名詞：compliance（遵循；合規）、compliance department（法遵部門）。

certify that + 子句 就是「證明……」：
The document certifies that the product meets safety standards.（這份文件證明產品符合安全標準。）
常見的 certificate「證書、證明文件」也是同一家族：certify（v. 證明、認證）／ certified（adj. 經認證的）／ certificate（n. 證書、證明）。

McDonald’s Taiwan today said it has halted sales of its limited edition Sea Flavor Fried Shrimp Burger and its double-patty version, after the importer notified the company last night that the shrimp patties contained nitrofurans — a group of synthetic antibiotics — and their metabolites.
Sales of the shrimp burgers were suspended nationwide at 10:30am today and customers who purchased them yesterday or in the early hours of this morning would be eligible for refunds, the company said, adding that more details would be announced within a week.
McDonald’s Taiwan said it was notified last night that subsequent batch testing had found that the shrimp patties contained 0.7 parts per billion of nitrofurans and their metabolites, and therefore did not comply with food safety standards under the Act Governing Food Safety and Sanitation (食品安全衛生管理法).
台灣麥當勞今日表示，在進口商昨晚通知其蝦肉餅含有硝基呋喃（一種合成抗生素）及其代謝物後，已暫停販售其限量版的「海味炸蝦堡」及其雙層蝦餅版本。該公司表示，蝦堡的銷售已於今日上午 10 點 30 分在全國範圍內暫停，昨日或今日凌晨購買該產品的顧客將符合退款資格，並補充說明將在一週內公布更多細節。台灣麥當勞表示，昨晚接獲通知指出，後續的批次檢測發現蝦肉餅含有 0.7 ppb（十億分之一）的硝基呋喃及其代謝物，因此不符合《食品安全衛生管理法》規範的食品安全標準。Taiwan has banned the use of nitrofurans for use as a feed additive in aquatic products due to possible links to cancer. McDonald’s Taiwan apologized for any inconvenience caused, adding that safeguarding food safety is its responsibility.
The manufacturer had provided inspection documents certifying that the seafood was food safety compliant, the company said, adding that it is continuing to work with suppliers and testing agencies to further clarify the results.
Nitrofurans are broad-spectrum antibiotics effective against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, said Yen Tzung-hai (顏宗海), director of Linkou Chang Gung Memorial Hospital’s Clinical Poison Center.

Most countries, including Taiwan, prohibit their use in aquaculture and livestock farming, he added.
In addition to the potential cancer risk, the main concern surrounding nitrofuran residues in food is that they could trigger allergic reactions such as hives in people who are sensitive to antibiotics but not allergic to seafood, Yen said.
