The decision made by Japan to release treated wastewater from the Fukushima nuclear plant into the Pacific Ocean has raised global concerns. Ever since the 2011 tsunami disaster, a huge amount of treated wastewater has been piling up at the damaged plant. On August 24, Japan started a 30-year process of releasing this water. Although the plan was approved by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), both the Japanese public and its neighboring countries have expressed concerns.
