a. 本題測試下列固定用法：

句中若出現時間副詞片語 “over / during / for the past / last + 一段時間”（過去若干時間以來）時，句中動詞時態應採現在完成式或現在完成進行式，表示到現在為止已完成或一直持續的狀態或動作。
• Over the past two years, Danny has gained a lot of weight.
過去兩年來，丹尼的體重增加了很多。

b. 由本題的 Over the past year（過去一年來）可知，答案應選 (D) has increased。
