New Zealand Bans Smoking for Future Generation
The New Zealand government has recently passed a law to ban smoking for the future generation. It has made it illegal for anyone born on or after January 1, 2009 to ever buy tobacco. This makes New Zealand the first country in the world to introduce an annually rising legal smoking age. Lawmakers hope that by doing this, the country can be “smoke-free” by 2025.
In addition to this, the government is making other changes in an effort to make cigarettes less affordable and accessible. It is forcing tobacco companies to reduce the amount of nicotine, the addictive chemical in tobacco, in their products. The government will also limit tobacco products to only being sold at certain stores, which reduces the locations where tobacco can be sold from 6,000 places to 600.

Single-UseToiletries inTaiwan Hotels Face Possible Ban
The Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) of Taiwan recently drafted a bill that would limit hotels from providing plastic toiletries like toothbrushes and tiny shampoo bottles for guests starting in July. The EPA stated that the plastic waste produced by this practice goes against the Waste Disposal Act, as the toiletries provided by hotels are often thrown away immediately after use. The EPA hopes to follow the guidelines of the 2022 UN Environment Assembly by significantly reducing single-use plastic products by 2030.
With the removal of single-use toiletries across Taiwan, the EPA is thinking of making hotels cut their room prices by 5% to make up for the lack of convenience many hotel guests are used to. The EPA stated that it may allow hotels to provide single-use toiletries if needed at an extra cost.
