Cinderella

　　Cinderella’s Castle is perhaps one of the most recognizable castles in the world. It made its debut in Cinderella in 1950, but it doesn’t just exist in that animated film. A life-size model of the castle stands at the entrance of Walt Disney Resort in Orlando, Florida. This castle was based on eight different real castles, including Neuschwanstein, which is located in the southern Bavarian region of Germany.

Beauty and the Beast

　　The castle owned by the Beast in this fairy tale isn’t the only location in the film based on a real place. The village where Belle lives at the start of the film is based on the idyllic village of Rouen, France. The magical castle staffed by inanimate objects that come to life was inspired by the Chateau de Chambord in France.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

　　The original animated Disney fairy tale, Snow White, was a saga first written by the Brothers Grimm in the 19th century. The Evil Queen’s castle in the film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was built to resemble Alcázar de Segovia in Spain. The castle was previously a military fort, a prison, and an artillery school. It is now a museum.
