Clubhouse is an app designed to host drop-in audio chat rooms. It was launched in April 2020 as a new social network available only to Apple smartphone users. The number of users is also somewhat limited since you must be invited to join. However, by limiting access, Clubhouse has successfully attracted buzz because people see it as an exclusive and intimate chat experience.
In May of last year, the company was valued at over US$100 million and gained a considerable amount of investment from the firm Andreessen Horowitz. Now, in 2021, the company has big plans to expand. While studying the successes and failures of other social media companies, Clubhouse has begun carefully managing the introduction and promotion of influencers and celebrities on the platform.
With its “Creator Pilot Program,” Clubhouse plans to offer a new kind of connection between content creators and users of the platform. Some of the content the platform aims to develop includes talk shows, poetry readings, theatrical performances, DJ music sets, speed dating groups, and political discussions.
