深入臺灣

Almost everyone loves a good snack. And although a lot of snacks are not healthy, they are tasty, easy to eat, and give us energy after a long day when we are exhausted. But in Taiwan, one kind of snack is used for an unexpected reason. Many Taiwanese believe a corn snack called Kuai Kuai has a special power. If they put a bag of Kuai Kuai next to a machine, that machine will keep working smoothly.
How did this tradition start? One story is about a student who learned about this lucky food after it made his computer stop acting up. When he put a bag of Kuai Kuai next to his computer, his computer started to perform properly! This story soon spread around Taiwan, and more and more people began using Kuai Kuai as a lucky charm. Bags of Kuai Kuai snacks can now be found in many kinds of workplaces: offices, police stations, and even hospitals.
There are some important rules to remember if you want to bring Kuai Kuai luck to your own workplace, though. First, the bag must be green, the color for “go.” Second, it doesn’t work if it’s too old. You must replace the bag with a new one about every six months. Last but not least, don’t open the bag. The snack loses its magic if you eat it!
