深入臺灣
Enjoy hot-air balloons in eastern Taiwan.
Taiwan’s beauty attracts visitors from around the world. However, Taitung, located in eastern Taiwan, hoped to attract more tourists. The area already had some experience with paragliding, so the local government decided to promote a related activity. It hosted the first Taiwan International Balloon Festival in 2011, which kicked off a yearly tradition.
Since that time, the festival has continued to grow. More than 880,000 people attended the festival in 2012. Some people in Taiwan took interest in hot-air balloons and became professional hot-air balloon pilots. In 2013, some cities around Taiwan held their own hot- air balloon-related events. Taiwan’s first hot- air balloon business, Skyrainbow Airlines, was established in 2014. This provided a strong foundation for balloon activities in Taitung.
