並不是所有事情都適合跟別人透露，會因為各種原因而試圖將其隱瞞。

「保密」英文怎麼說呢? 今天帶大家認識幾種「保守祕密」的英文說法。

Can you keep a secret? 你可以保守秘密嗎?
= Can you keep it secret?

Ex: Can you keep a secret? Don't let anyone know about this matter.
(你可以保密嗎?不要讓任何人知道這件事。)

Mum’s the word. 別張揚，一定保密

這句話是用於告訴或答應某人保守秘密，意思是:「別張揚，一定保密。」。Mum”本來就有「母親」的意思，但這裡並不是指母親喔，是指”silent”沉默不語，mum就像是聲音被摀住發出的hmm聲，Mum’s the word.是出自莎士比亞的句子，其實就有「保守秘密，保持沉默」之意喔。

Ex: I’ll never tell anyone else what you just shared with me. Mum’s the word!
(我絕不會告訴其他任何人你剛跟我分享的事，一定保密!)

Don’t tell a soul. 不要告訴別人。

soul多為作「靈魂」之意，但soul同時也可以是指人 (尤用於否定句)，這句話就是指「不要告訴他人」之意，

Ex: Promise me that you won't tell a soul! It’s a big secret!
(承諾我你不會告訴他人，這可是大秘密。)

Keep it under your hat. 保密。

keep sth under your hat 要求保密。把要隱瞞保密的事情藏在你的帽子底下，也就是藏好不要說出去，這裡可指「保守秘密」。

Ex: Regarding the information I told you this morning, please keep it under your hat.
(關於早上我跟你說的消息，請保守好秘密。)

Don’t breathe a word. 一個字都不要透露出去。

not breathe a word 不透露風聲

Ex: My girlfriend promised not to breathe a word to anyone. (我女友承諾不會透露給任何人知道。)

My lips are sealed. 我會保密的。

seal (v.) 封(信封)

Ex: Don’t worry, my lips are sealed. I swear. (不用擔心，我會守口如瓶的，我發誓。)

Keep it to yourself. 把這個消息保密，不要說出去。

keep sth to yourself 對某事秘而不宣

Ex: Whatever you find out, keep it to yourself. (不論你發現什麼，不要讓別人知道。)

This is between you and me. 這件事只有你我知道。

between you and me (秘密)在你我之間

Don’t let this go further than these four walls. 這件事出了這個房門就不要再提了。

hush sth up 掩蓋某事
Ex: The whole affair will be hushed up. (整個事件都會被掩蓋掉。)

hush-hush (a.) 不公開的
Ex: The wedding was very hush-hush. (他們的婚禮事是秘密進行的。)

Take sb into your confidence 向某人透露自己的心事，將秘密告訴某人

Ex: She took me into her confidence and told me about her problems. (她向我吐露內心的秘密，告訴我她的問題。)

confidence (n.) (對某人保守秘密)信賴(不可數)

Ex:This is in the strictest confidence. (這事切勿外傳)

in confidence 私下透露地
Ex: May I tell you something in confidence? (我可以私下告訴你一件事嗎?)

【情境對話】

A: I have some gossip for you, Jeremy. Can you keep a secret?
B: Of course, Fran. Mum’s the word.
A: Good. I heard Stuart and Mary are having an affair!
B: Wow! That’s shocking.
A: Yes, it is. But please don’t tell a soul for now.
B: I won’t breathe a word of it, I promise.
A: Thank you.
