hear something through the grapevine
I heard it through the grapevine that you're quitting.
= People say that you're quitting.
= Word has it that you're quitting.
= Rumor has it that you're quitting.
= It is said that you're quitting.
= My sources told me that you're quitting.
= A little bird told me that you're quitting.(非正式)
*quit vi.
That's not true. Where did this rumor ever get started?
*rumor n.
I heard it through the grapevine that...
There has been a rumor going around the office about...
You'll never believe what I'm going to tell you, but...
I don't mean to gossip, but...
*gossip vi.
Hear! Hear! 你說的很對!(= You're right.)
A: I think we should go eat something before the movie starts.
B: Hear! Hear!
Be tolerant, and you can get along well with many people.
When the right opportunity comes along, I will take it.
How's the project coming along?
It is said that dogs are more loyal than cats.
It is said that Gatsby is going to marry a rich widow.
