 A  Why didn’t you come home?
 B  It got too late, so I stayed at his place.
 A  I was worried. You should’ve called.
 B  Actually, I did, but there was no answer. Where were you last night?
 A  Err... I was chatting with Becky!

 A  你昨晚去哪裡了？
 B  我在跟馬克聊天。
 A  你為什麼沒回家？
 B  時間太晚了，所以我就待在他家。
 A  我很擔心。你應該打通電話的。
 B  事實上我有打，但沒有人接。你昨晚去哪裡了？

單字片語 Vocabulary and Phrases

 1  chat vi. & n. 聊天，閒談
（三態為：chat, chatted, chatted）

chat with sb 　　與某人聊天

= have a chat with sb

I had a good time chatting with John at the party.

我在派對上與約翰聊得很愉快。

 2  late a. （時間）晚的

It’s late, so I suppose you must go home.

時間很晚了，所以我想你必須回家。

 3  stay  vi. 停留，留下

stay (at) home 　待在家裡

 4  place n. 家，住處

sb’s place 　　某人的家

 5  worried a. 擔心的

Michael isn’t worried about the situation.

 6  answer n（. 電話的）應答，接聽 & vt. 回應（電話）

口語新技能 New Skills

 1  表示「本應該……」的說法

should have + 過去分詞    本應該……
was to have + 過去分詞    本應該……
You should have handed in your report on time.
= You were to have handed in your report on time.
你本應該準時繳交你的報告。（實際上你並沒有準時交報告。）
