For anyone that has problems with their vision, eyeglasses are a lifesaver. They can be worn if you are nearsighted, are farsighted , or have any other issues; they are even a fashion choice for some. But how did we come to depend on them so much? Let’s take a look at the history of glasses.
Before anyone was wearing lenses, the Romans used spheres of glass filled with water to magnify text. Primitive glassmaking had been around since 2500 BCE, but the Romans were the first to discover that glass could be used for magnification. However, after the collapse of the Roman Empire, the manufacturing of glass declined. The next step forward for eyeglasses did not occur until roughly a thousand years later.
