Mint has even made its way into various mythologies from around the world. Nobody has been more in love with mint than the ancient Greeks. In fact, they even have a goddess named after the herb—Minthe.
Just like the plant that she was named after, Minthe liked to be around small bodies of water. Her territory was the River Cocytus, one of the many rivers that surround the Kingdom of the Underworld. Living a lonely life, Minthe fell for Hades, king of the Underworld. As it turned out, the feeling was mutual, and they began an affair. The problem was that Hades was already married to Queen Persephone.
