The world’s longest canyon is hiding under the ice.
Greenland’s name doesn’t really make sense. Contrary to what it’s called, most of the country isn’t green but white because it’s covered withsnow and ice. In some parts of Greenland, this layerof ice extendstwo miles into the ground. Under all that snow and ice lies a rocky world. This landscapeincludes tall mountains and deep valleys. However, most of these natural features are totally hidden to the human eye.
In 2013, a group of scientists from Canada, England, and Italy was studying the environment in Greenland. They were using special equipmentto look at the rocks deep below the ice. While doing this, they accidentallydiscovered one of the world’s largest canyons. The canyon starts in the central part of the island and runs north to the Arctic Ocean.
