The nonprofitgroup works with communitiesaround the world to preserve and appreciate the darkness of night. Entire cities such as Chicago have chosen to change their lighting fixturesin order to decrease energy use and improve public health.
In Canada, bird-friendly laws regarding lighting have been passed, and many major cities turn off their lights during migrationseasons. The town of Jasper, Alberta, hosts an annual Jasper Dark Sky Festival, which is popular with stargazersand photographers. The town has also recently changed all its public lights to the most environmentally-friendly fixtures available.
