Mary: I've been hearing rumors about you.
Anthony: What?
Mary: My friend Susan said that you've been badmouthing me behind my back.
Anthony: That's a lie. Susan just has a crush on me. So she wants us to break up.
Mary: That's crazy.
Anthony: Just look at me. I'm smart, charming, and I have a good job.
Mary: You forgot to say "Funny!" You're very, very funny.
瑪麗：我一直聽到有關你的傳聞。
安東尼：什麼？
瑪麗：我朋友蘇珊說你一直在背後說我壞話。
安東尼：那是騙人的。其實是因為蘇珊迷戀我，所以想讓我們分手。
瑪麗：那太荒謬了。
安東尼：看看我，我聰明、迷人又有一份好工作。
瑪麗：你忘了說『好笑』！你真的非常、非常好笑。
behind 是『在⋯⋯後面』，back 則指『背部』，behind someone's back 字面上是指『在某人的背後』，引申為『背著某人』，指在某人背後做些不好的事，像是說壞話、扯後腿等等。
阿珠跟阿花本來是好朋友，不過有一天阿珠聽說阿花在背後嘲笑她，於是氣沖沖地跑去找阿花理論，氣不過的阿珠說：
How could you laugh at me behind my back?
（妳怎麼可以在背後嘲笑我呢？）
和 behind someone's back 相反的說法則是 to someone's face。
face 是『臉』，to someone's face 是指『當著某人的面』。通常是說毫不避諱，當著別人的面批評，或是做一些令對方不快的事等等。
遭到阿珠的指責，蒙受不白之冤的阿花就很無辜地說：
You misunderstood me. I would never do that. I'd have just laughed at you to your face.
（妳誤會我了，我絕不會做那種事。我只會直接當著妳的面嘲笑妳。）＊misunderstand vt. 誤會
（三態為：misunderstand, misunderstood , misunderstood。）
