Unit 47  be superior to... 或 be more superior than...？

 

superior 表「較優越的」，為 -ior 結尾的形容詞，其用法如下：

 

例 This product is far more superior than that one in quality. (X)
→ This product is far superior to that one in quality. (O)
= This product is far better than that one in quality. (O)
(這項產品的品質要比那項產品優越多了。)

例 As far as quality goes, this pen is more inferior than yours. (X)
→ As far as quality goes, this pen is inferior to yours. (O)
(就品質而言，這支筆比你的筆差一些。)

例 A captain is more junior than a major. (X)
→ A captain is junior to a major. (O)
(上尉官階要比少校低。)

例 The general manager is more senior than the assistant manager.(X)
→ The general manager is (far) senior to the assistant manager. (O)
(總經理的地位要比協理高很多。)

例 Prior to / Before the war, Mr. Li taught English in a small rural junior high school.
(戰爭前，李先生在鄉下一所國中教英文。)

 

例 Patty is senior to me by two years. (X)
                    adj.

→ Patty is two years senior to me. (O)
                      adv.       adj.

= Patty is two years my senior. (O)            
                                          n.

= Patty is older than I by two years. (O)

= Patty is two years older than I. (O)

(派蒂比我大兩歲。)

 

例 Carl is junior to me by two years. (X)
                adj.

= Carl is two years my junior. (O)
                                       n.

= Carl is younger than I by two years. (O)

(卡爾比我小兩歲。)

但 Carl is two years junior to me. (罕)
                 adj.
 (卡爾比我小兩歲。)
