| can 與 could 的用法 |
| 1. can + V → 表（現在∕未來的）能力 / 可能 / 許可 / 請求 |
- I can read French but I can't speak it.（能力）
（我能閱讀法文但不會說。） - Anyone can make mistakes.（可能）
（任何人都可能犯錯。） - You can go now if you want to.（許可）
（如果你想走的話，現在可以走了。） - Can you help me file this letter?（請求）
（可否請你幫我將這封信存檔？）

2. could + V → 表（過去的）能力：（現在∕未來的）可能；（較客氣的）請求 |
- I could run marathons when I was young.
（我年輕時能跑馬拉松。） - Anything could happen in a situation like this.
（在這種情況下，任何事情都有可能發生。） - Could I speak to you in private?
（可否跟您私下談談？）

3. can / cannot have + pp. + → 推測『過去可能∕不可能……』（限用於否定句或疑問句） |
- Dolly can't have forgotten about her own birthday.
