Taiwan Issues New Food Hygiene Regulations to Boost Food Safety

　　Taiwan’s Food and Drug Administration has issued updated hygiene regulations to improve food safety across the food service and delivery industries. The revised “Good Hygiene Practice Guidelines for Food” bans a range of unsanitary practices and requires stricter standards for food preparation, handling, and delivery.

　　Under the new rules, food delivery workers are explicitly prohibited from smoking, chewing betel nut, or chewing gum during food pick-up or delivery. They must also receive hygiene and safety training, with the records properly kept for future inspections. In addition to these personal hygiene requirements, companies need to appoint hygiene managers responsible for ensuring the cleanliness of both their staff and equipment.

　　These guidelines were prompted by the rapid growth of Taiwan’s food delivery market, which recorded spending of NT$95 billion in 2023. The new rules apply to all food-related businesses, and violators may face fines of up to NT$200 million.

　　新規定明確禁止外送人員在取得及交付食品的過程中吸菸、嚼食檳榔或口香糖。他們還必須接受衛生安全訓練，並妥善保存記錄以備將來檢查。除了這些個人衛生要求外，公司還需任命衛生管理人員，負責確保員工和外送裝備的清潔。

　　臺灣食品外送市場的快速成長促成了這些準則的修訂，該市場的消費額在 2023 年達到九百五十億新臺幣。此項新規適用於所有與食品相關的企業，違反者可能面臨最高新臺幣兩億元的罰鍰。
