Your insulated bottle might look like an ordinary item, but it has done much more than hold liquids throughout its 130-year history. In 1892, scientist James Dewar discovered that removing air from around a container prevents heat transfer incredibly well. His invention remained in the laboratory __1__ glassblower Reinhold Burger redesigned it for household use. Burger secured a patent and launched the brand Thermos.
