Swedish IT engineer Magnus Gens won an Ig Nobel Prize for creating a moose crash-test dummy. In Gens’ home country of Sweden, there are thousands of moose-related car accidents per year. Gens wanted to see how cars would crumple when colliding with big animals like moose, so he built a test dummy in the shape of the animal and had a car drive into it. With cameras surrounding the impact at all angles, he was able to measure the damage of a head-on collision with a moose.
The decision paved the way for a future merger with another company.
