表『目的』和『結果』的副詞子句

句型 (1)：

S + V +

so that in order that

+ S + 助動詞 (can, will, may) + V...（表目的）

• He has to work day and night so that he can support a family of five.
  （他必須日夜工作以維持一家五口的生活。）
• Regular checks are made in order that safety standards will/can/may be maintained.
  （經常進行檢查以維持安全標準。）
   

句型 (2)：

S + V +

to so as to in order to

+ V...（表目的）

• We eat to live, not live to eat.
  （吾人為生而食，非為食而生。）
• I drove at a steady 50 mph so as to save fuel.
  （我以每小時 50 哩的穩定速度開車以節省油料。）
   

句型 (3)：

S + V +

with a view to with an eye to with the aim of for the purpose of

+ V-ing...（表目的）

• They bought the land with a view to building a nursing home.
  （他們買了一塊地為了要蓋一棟養老院。）
• The band is currently on tour with the aim of raising money for the underprivileged.
  （為了幫弱勢團體募款，該樂團目前正在巡迴演出。）

句型 (4)：

S + V +

so... such...

+ that + S + V...（表結果）

• Ruby was so frightened that she went pale.
  = So frightened was Ruby that she turned pale.
  （如碧害怕到臉色發白。）
• Her manner was such that she offended almost everyone.
  = Such was her manner that she offended almost everyone.
  （她的態度如此惡劣，因此幾乎得罪每一個人。）
