need不只是當動詞使用，助動詞的用法也學起來!

Unit 33  need not V 或 need not to V？

“need” 相信大家都知道有動詞「需要」的意思。
但你知道用於否定時，我們說的「不需要/不必…」可以直接加”not" 嗎?

need 意為「需要」，可當一般動詞也可當助動詞，用法如下：

 

need not + 原形動詞　　不必……        

例 Tom is at fault, so you need not to apologize to him. (X)
→ Tom is at fault, so you need not apologize to him. (O)
(湯姆有錯，因此你不必向他道歉。)

例 I’m on leave today, so my wife needs not to mop the floor. I will do it for her. (X)
→ I’m on leave today, so my wife need not / needn’t mop the floor. I will do it for her. (O)
(我今天休假，因此我老婆不必拖地板。我幫她做就行了。)

 

need to + 原形動詞　　有必要……

例 Jay need to finish the work now. (X)
→ Jay needs to finish the work now. (O)  (阿傑現在需要完成工作。)

 

例 Tom is at fault, so you need not apologize to him. (O)
                                       助動詞
= Tom is at fault, so you don’t need to apologize to him. (O)
                                                動詞
例 I’m on leave today, so my wife need not mop the floor. I’ll do it for her. (O)                  
                                                      助動詞
= I’m on leave today, so my wife doesn’t need to mop the floor. I’ll do it for her. (O)                      
                                                        動詞

 注意  “didn’t need to + 原形動詞” 與 “needn’t have + 過去分詞” 的不同。

didn’t need to + 原形動詞　　當時沒必要做某事，也就未做此事
needn’t have + 過去分詞　　當時沒必要做某事，卻做了此事（與過去事實相反的假設語氣）

例 It was Sunday yesterday, so John didn’t need to go to school. He stayed home listening to music.
昨天是星期天，因此約翰沒必要到學校去上學。他待在家聽音樂。

例 I’ve already cleaned the dishes, so you needn’t have washed them again. (But you washed them again.)
我已經清洗過這些碗筷了，因此你就不必再清洗了。（不過你卻又清洗了一遍。）
