Dan: Where should we go this weekend?
Lisa: Let's head for the beach.
Dan: You totally read my mind.
Lisa: Oh, sugar pie. You're so great.
Dan: You, too, honey bunny. We always think alike.
Lisa: Can you guess what I'm thinking now?
Dan: That you love me?
Lisa: No. I'm thinking you shouldn't wear those tiny swimming trunks you have. They look awful!

 

 

阿丹：我們這個週末該去哪兒阿？
麗莎：咱們去海邊吧！
阿丹：妳真是深知我心。
麗莎：喔，親愛的。你嘴真甜。
阿丹：妳也是，甜心。我們總是心有靈犀。
麗莎：那你猜得出來我現在在想什麼嗎？
阿丹：妳很愛我？
麗莎：不是啦。我在想你不該穿那件超小的泳褲。真難看！

 

俚語精解

mind 指一個人的『心思』，read someone's mind 就是會讀心術，
『知道某人在想什麼』。由此衍生出 mind-reader 表『看穿他人心思的人』。

阿雄和他的死黨阿布最喜歡去酒吧喝酒。某個星期五晚上，阿布在大賣場遇到了阿雄。
Bruce: How about going for a drink later?
Peter: You read my mind, buddy! (= You're a mind-reader, buddy!)
（布魯斯：等一下去喝一杯如何？）
（阿　雄：老兄！你深知我心！）

 

另一個和 read someone's mind 類似的說法：

read someone like a book 看透某人就像看書一樣容易（輕易看透某人）

阿雄每次說謊，臉就會紅得像猴子的屁股。某次他偷吃了桌上的蛋糕，
後來媽媽問他，他卻說蛋糕是被隔壁的小花貓叼走的。媽媽生氣地說：

You're lying, aren't you? I can read you like a book.
= You're lying, aren't you? I can read your mind.
= You're lying, aren't you? I know exactly what you're thinking.
（你在說謊，對吧？你在想什麼我都知道。）

如果心裡正被某人或某事困擾時，我們可以使用下列片語：
on one's mind　　困擾著某人

阿雄今天回到家的時候，發現媽媽的臉色不是很好看，爸爸偷偷告訴他，
原來是媽媽被倒會了。爸爸告誡阿雄：
Don't bother your mother tonight. She's got a lot on her mind.
（今晚不要去煩你媽媽。她煩得要命。）
